In today’s ‘Inspiring Quote’ we look at science fiction writer Octavia Butler where she points out the inevitable for all of us and that is that the only truth in life is change.

When she was nine-years old, Octavia Butler saw the science fiction movie, “Devil Girl from Mars” and found herself thinking – “I can write a better story than that”.

Octavia grew up to become the first well recognized Black female science fiction writer.

She published 12 novels total and was the only science fiction writer to ever be awarded the prestige’s MacArthur “Genius” Grant, an award that she added to others in her resume such as the Nebula Award, Hugo Award, and PEN Lifetime Achievement Award.

In her writing career, Octavia used fiction stories to tell of deep truth, imparting wisdom that can transcend genre, gender, or even race.

No matter how times have changed, the stories by Octavia Butler continue to entertain and enlighten.

Among those books which one should check out and read include “Mind of My Mind”, “Wild Seed”, “Clays Ark”, “Patternmaster”, “Dawn”, “Adulthood Rites” and “Imago”, the final three of which are considered Butlers ‘Xenogenius Trilogy’.
